Sustainability
Artisanal fishing on the Atlantic, local crews on shore.
Maurimar's fleet uses hand-line and pot fishing — small-boat artisanal methods that target octopus selectively, without bottom trawling. The crews, processing staff, and QC technicians are recruited and trained from the Nouadhibou region.
Maurimar does not currently hold MSC, ASC, or Friend of the Sea certification. The page below describes practice, not certification.
Fishing methods
How the catch is brought in.
Maurimar's fleet uses hand-line and traditional pot fishing — no industrial trawling, no bycatch trawl, no bottom impact. These are small-boat artisanal techniques that target octopus selectively: each line, each pot, each catch.
Maurimar operates its own artisanal fleet, fishing the Atlantic off Nouadhibou. The company does not source from industrial trawlers. Catch comes from our own boats, on our terms — that is the foundation the traceability chain is built on.

Community
The people who run the operation.
Maurimar employs and trains crews, processing staff, and QC technicians from the Nouadhibou region, with wages and working conditions aligned to Mauritanian labour standards and the company's own internal policy.
QC staff are trained against documented grading criteria — the same criteria that underpin the Japan-quality grade. The operation invests in skill development as a long-term commitment: a stable, skilled workforce is part of what makes the quality system work.
Practice, not certification.
Below is what Maurimar actually does — no certification framing, no borrowed credibility.
Selective fishing methods
Hand-line and pot only — no bottom trawling, no bycatch trawl, no impact on the seabed or non-target species.
Local sourcing
Single fishing zone, single processing site, port-to-facility transfer. No intermediary warehousing or long-haul inland logistics.
Cold-chain efficiency
Direct from port to facility under continuous cold chain. No ambient-temperature warehousing, no secondary freezing cycles.
Long-term partnerships
Buyers and fleet captains retained over years — not seasons. Long relationships mean consistent quality at every link.
Global reach, local source
Every container shipped from Nouadhibou carries product caught, processed, and frozen within the same Zone Franche perimeter — minimising transit and keeping traceability intact to the destination market.
Where independent certification is held by a Maurimar partner — for example a buyer's chain — the partner's certification is not Maurimar's claim. Maurimar reports its own practice.
