A Mauritanian octopus supplier, built around the Atlantic and the Nouadhibou port.

Maurimar exports 800+ tons of octopus a year, processed at our Zone Franche facility in Nouadhibou — caught by our own artisanal fleet, graded to premium standards, and shipped to Japan, Europe, and the Middle East.

Our story

Mauritania sits on one of the richest octopus grounds in the world — the cold, nutrient-rich Canary Current off Nouadhibou has sustained artisanal octopus fishing for generations. The export chain, however, was historically fragmented: catches moved through multiple intermediaries before reaching the container. Maurimar was built to close that gap — to own the full chain from the boat to the reefer, under a single set of standards.

Today, Maurimar operates its own artisanal fleet, its own processing facility inside the Zone Franche of Nouadhibou, and its own quality control program certified by ONISPA. The operation exports 800+ tons per year, across seven calibers from T1 to T7, in IQF and block-frozen formats, to Japan, Europe, and the Middle East. The health certification covers shipments into the EU, Japan, and the Gulf.

We built the chain so our buyers don't have to rebuild it.

The fishing methods have not changed: hand-line and traditional pot, small-boat artisanal techniques that target octopus selectively without bottom trawling. The company's posture remains family-oriented and long-term — our buyers are partners, not accounts, and our fleet captains are people we know by name.

Location

Where we operate.

Nouadhibou sits on the Atlantic coast of northwestern Mauritania, at the base of Ras Nouadhibou — a peninsula that shelters one of the deepest natural ports on the West African coast. The city lies within the Zone Franche de Nouadhibou, Mauritania's principal free-trade and fishing-export zone, which provides direct port access, cold-storage infrastructure, and the export health certification framework for EU and Japan markets. The cold Canary Current that runs along this coastline drives year-round octopus availability — the biological fact that made Nouadhibou the reference address for West African octopus export.
